Rubbish or Treasure

I’m a compulsive beachcomber, as you would see from the assortment of colourful floats, buoys, scraps of fishing nets, rope, driftwood, pebbles and shells which are so tastefully (?) adorning various corners of Talbenny Hall and the cottages.  I’ve also constructed cupboards, shelves, coat hooks and boat sculptures from my findings, but it is becoming more and more difficult.  Is it because there is less flotsam and jetsam as the world becomes more environmentally aware?  No not really, it’s those jolly nice people who think that their role in life is to scour Marloes beach and the like, and to clear it of all the ‘rubbish’ (their view) or ‘treasure’ (my view) so that we can have a sanitised environment so loved by those people who, but for the recession would be lying on some ‘hoovered’ beach on one of the Costas!  So please leave the beaches alone, or at least stop nicking all the treasures and just take away the genuine rubbish and litter (if you can distinguish the difference) and let me and those of my ilk get back to making driftwood sculptures and generally littering our properties with beach treasures!!!!!!!!!!!

Found it! The blog not the treasures……….I don’t think that they have found their way down to Cornwall yet……..the treasures that is! Perhaps searching on another beach may be of help, although I know that Marloes is The Best Beach in The World, West Dale perhaps? x

As one of those ‘jolly nice people’ who happens to be chairman of the Marloes Peninsula Coastcare Group, I feel I must comment on your plea for us to leave the beaches alone. Believe me, nothing gives me greater joy (really… I must be a rather sad person) than walking down onto the best beach in the world (ie. Marloes Sands) and finding it clear of toothbrushes, bits of lobster pot and milk containers containing ‘gone-off milk’ etc. etc. Rest assured, we are just as aware of what is rubbish and what is treasure. Just to prove it, I’ll let you know when the next beach clean is taking place so that you can join us and keep an eye on us.
PS. We might let you drive the 8 wheel Tonka Toy that shifts the bags for us.
PPS. Discarded toothbrushes are actually quite useful! I can think of at least ten uses, other readers might like to make suggestions.
